This is a movie reel I created in Photoshop. I worked on chrome and metallic surfaces, which I think turned out well. Since chrome surfaces depend a lot on the enviroment around them for the actual reflections, there is a sense of loss to the image because it sits in only white space, yet the white lighting makes the highlights and shadows more exagerated.
I started off by creating one side of the film reel. I did this by making a solid circle, which I then deleted 5 smaller circles in, equal distance from one another and equal size. Then I put rims around all the circles. Then i worked on the center of the circle with some various sized circles and some lines, just keeping everything equal distance from each other. After I did this, I worked on highlights and shadows, making it more metallic feeling. When I had completed the first side of the reel, I dupilcated the whole thing, put the duplicate behind the original and worked with perspective and some other things to make it 3D looking. For the film in the inside, I made a black circle, changed the perspective so i was in accordance with the sides of the reel, and then gave it some depth. After the initial big roll of film, i put the last strip of film coming off of it. Finally, I adjusted levels and contrast along with some other minor color and darkness adjustments until I came up with a shiny, reflective surface.
